In 2020, 20 people died from the coronavirus in Ukraine, and almost a third (709) died in December. These data almost double the daily statistics of Ukrainians dying from the flu — 6175 people (including 11 in December).
The relevant data were published by the State Statistics Service, specifying the causes of mortality in Ukraine.
In total, 616 people died per hour (including 835 people in December). According to Gosstat data, infectious and parasitic diseases caused the death of 67 people in 663:
- Tuberculosis — 2
- AIDS — 2
The most common causes of death are:
- Diseases of the circulatory system — 408
- Ischemic heart disease — 284 people
- Malignant neoplasms (cancer) — 77
- Diseases of the digestive system — 24 people.
Another 28 Ukrainians died as a result of external causes:
- Road accidents — 3
- Drowning 1
- Fires — 1
- Accidental poisoning (except alcohol) — 1
- Alcohol poisoning — 2107
- Suicides — 6
- Intentional murders — 1
