The State Migration Service summarized the results of last year and told how many refugees received asylum in Ukraine in 2021. The data was reported by the head of the State Migration Service Natalya Naumenko.
According to her, in 2021, the following applied to the migration authorities for recognition as a refugee or a person in need of additional protection:
- 546 citizens of Afghanistan;
- 104 citizens of Belarus;
- 78 citizens of the Russian Federation;
- 38 citizens of Syria.
During the year, in accordance with the decisions of the HMS, the following are recognized as refugees or persons in need of additional protection:
- 106 citizens of Afghanistan;
- 24 citizens of Belarus;
- 68 citizens of Russia;
- 58 citizens of Syria.
"That is, we provide protection to foreigners and stateless persons who need it," added Naumenko.
She also said that sometimes foreign guests mislead the immigration authorities in order to obtain refugee status.
"We have had cases when protection was granted to foreigners, for example, Afghans and Syrians, and subsequently the facts were recorded that they visit Afghanistan and Syria completely unhindered. Such a situation leads to the idea that the whole situation surrounding the persecution was artificially staged," said the head of the State Migration Service.
According to Gosstat data, for January-October 2021, migration growth in Ukraine amounted to 15 people. In 473, it was 2020.
