Employees of the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland were caught transporting contraband

They were recalled to Ukraine

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, recalled from abroad two employees of the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland, who were detained at the border while trying to export contraband from Ukraine.

He announced this on his Facebook page.

"Yesterday, two employees of the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland were caught red-handed - they were detained at the border when they tried to take a large amount of currency, gold and contraband cigarettes from Ukraine to Poland in an official car. An egregious case for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," wrote Kuleba.

The minister decided to recall both employees from long-term foreign assignments.

"Their work at the embassy is over. In the next couple of hours, all formalities on this matter will be completed. We are starting a disciplinary investigation against both employees in relation to the revealed facts. The investigation will be thorough and quick. Of course, no one canceled the presumption of innocence. But based on the results of the investigation, I will be ready to make any decisions," Kuleba emphasized.

He also noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine will fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies and expects from them a quick and impartial investigation and establishment of all the circumstances of the case.

"Corruption is everywhere, where there are people. The only difference is whether they tolerate it or not. In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - no. I will never cover scoundrels who think that they can use diplomatic status not to serve the state and people, but for personal illegal enrichment. Everyone from the diplomatic service system, regardless of rank and position, who will cast a shadow on Ukrainian diplomacy, will feel the undiplomatic nature of my reaction," the minister concluded.
