The council elected a new speaker

It was Ruslan Stefanchuk

Ruslan Stefanchuk, who previously held the position of first vice-speaker of the parliament, became the new head of the Verkhovna Rada. The relevant decision was supported by the majority of people's deputies at the plenary session on October 8.

261 people's deputies voted "for", three against, and 63 abstained.

Representatives of the "Servant of the People" faction cast 222 votes, "Doveriya" groups - 18, "For the Future" - 15, non-factional groups - 6. Representatives of OPZZH, EC, "Batkivshchyna" and "Holos" did not vote for the appointment of Stefanchuk as the new speaker of the Council.

Stefanchuk's candidacy was put forward by the "Servant of the People" faction. He received the largest number of votes among the other candidates. After that, his candidacy was proposed to the parliament for approval.

Ruslan Stefanchuk has held the position of First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada since August 29, 2019. Before that, he was a member of the "Servant of the People" political party. Even earlier, since May 21, 2019, he was an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

As a reminder, October 7, People's Deputies Dmytro Razumkov was released from the position of head of the Verkhovna Rada. This decision was supported by 284 people's deputies.
