The National Security and Defense Council (NSDO) will begin entering names into the register of oligarchs at the end of May 2022. This was reported by the Minister of Justice Denys Malyuska.
"In order to implement the law on oligarchs in the near future, the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio will develop and approve the Procedure for checking the business reputation of the buyer (potential buyer) of the mass media, the National Security Council will approve the Regulation on the Register of Oligarchs and the procedure for its formation and maintenance, as well as develop such a register. The implementation of the law on oligarchs falls on the period between the May holidays, and the first "nomination" meetings of the National Security Council will be possible (with observance of all procedural restrictions) from the XNUMXth of May," the head of the Ministry of Justice explained.
According to him, oligarchs must either receive official oligarch status and fall under the restrictions established by the new law, or get rid of the signs that define them as oligarchs (for example, stop influencing politics, get rid of a monopoly position, or sell media to a buyer with an impeccable business reputation .
"Anyone who decides to remain an oligarch even after the implementation of the law will be prohibited from financing political parties, being a buyer of large privatization objects, and financing political campaigning. Officials' contacts with oligarchs or their representatives will be publicly declared, and the oligarchs themselves will bear significant reputational risks in the business world," Malyuska noted.
