On August 23, a law came into force that equates electronic passports with paper passports in Ukraine.
This law is President Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed in April, then the President's Office reported that the law would enter into force on August 23.
The law establishes at the legislative level the definition of e-passport and e-passport for traveling abroad and equates them to physical counterparts.
"This will allow you to use these digital documents when traveling by train or plane within Ukraine; during medical care or banking operations, to obtain administrative, hotel, telecommunication, library and mail services, when purchasing goods in a store, and to confirm identity at the request of the police and law enforcement agencies," the OP explained.
E-passports are available only to Ukrainians who have an ID card or a biometric foreign passport. Their main advantages are protection against counterfeiting, ease of obtaining and ease of use.
At the same time, the Minister of Digital Transformation, Mikhail Fedorov, stated that if it is convenient for a person to use paper documents to receive services, he will have the right to do so.
