The group of perpetrators was exposed by the employees of the cybercrime countermeasures department in the Poltava region together with the investigators of the regional investigation department under the procedural guidance of the Poltava regional prosecutor's office.
A 30-year-old resident of Poltava Region organized the fraudulent scheme. The man placed an ad for the sale of cars for the needs of the Armed Forces on a popular trading platform. In the future, he communicated with potential buyers and convinced them to send a subscription to controlled accounts. After receiving the money, the suspect "disappeared".
The perpetrator involved two more accomplices in the illegal activity. They made out accounts in banking institutions to receive money from the victims. The participants divided the profit from the "business" among themselves and spent it on their own needs.
The law enforcement officers, with the force support of the soldiers of the special purpose police company, conducted searches in the homes of the suspects and the motor vehicle of one of them. Computer equipment, mobile phones, "draft" records, a car and other evidence of criminal activity were seized.
Currently, the investigation has already identified several dozen people who were defrauded by criminals. The total amount of damages exceeds one million hryvnias.
Two members of the group were charged with suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and the court chose preventive measures in the form of detention. The suspects face up to 5 years in prison.
Currently, the law enforcement officers are investigating the location of the organizer. Investigative actions are ongoing in order to establish the full range of victims and the amount of damages.
