The resignation of the speaker of the US House of Representatives will not affect aid to Ukraine, OP

Zelensky

Deputy Head of the Office of the President Ihor Zhovkva said that Ukraine has no reason to believe that the resignation of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, will affect the provision of support.

In the comment UNIAN Zhovkva said that the removal of McCarthy from the position of speaker of the House of Representatives is "an internal matter of the United States."

"The White House assured in its statement that the USA will support Ukraine regardless of who heads the House of Representatives. We have no reason to believe otherwise.", - he said.

According to the Deputy Chairman of the OP, Ukraine is convinced that the US will "confidently pass this stage of its domestic policy", and Ukraine's bipartisan support in Congress will remain.

He also commented on the recent decision of the US Congress, which passed a resolution on temporary funding of the government, but did not include aid to Ukraine.

Zhovkva emphasized that, despite this, work continues with the White House and congressmen on how aid to Ukraine will not stop. "It does not stop. Prior arrangements apply. Funds that have been allocated to Ukraine so far continue to flow. New aid packages also continue to be allocated. There are now several instruments that continue to operate in the new financial year, despite the fact that the new budget has not yet been approved", he remarked.

The OP also emphasized that "not for a second" the work of the Ukrainian side with the American side does not stop, so that there are appropriate funds for Ukraine already in the full draft of the US budget. In particular, during his visit to the USA, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, had a chance to announce the amount and why this money is needed, as well as to tell the representatives of both parties and the President of the USA how these funds will be controlled.

Zhovkva also clarified that both the American and Ukrainian sides were ready for the possibility of the above-mentioned decision of the Congress.

"The worst option for us would have been a shutdown... But it was avoided. This was primarily needed by the American side. It is obvious that such a step does not completely satisfy the Ukrainian side. But we are working. I am sure that we will see the corresponding amounts in the new draft laws on the budget"Zhovkva added.

Zelensky was also mentioned that during the communication with the representatives of various political forces in the USA, there was no talk about ending aid to Ukraine. In particular, not a single representative of one or another wing of the Republican Party stated this.

"I think that as a result of this visit, the attitude of the Republican Party has become more sober... Of course, whatever the results of the visit, Ukraine is sure that bipartisan support is not loud words, but reality. And she will stay", — added the deputy head of the OP.

McCarthy's release

Subsequently, it became known that the desire to become the next speaker after the removal of McCarthy was expressed by Republican Jim Jordan and the leader of the majority in the House of Representatives - Steve Scalise.

In turn, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi stated his confidence that the aid to Ukraine from the US will continue.
