Representative of the Democratic Party Sarah McBride became the first transgender in the history of the United States to receive a seat in the Senate.
It is reported The New York Times.
McBride will represent the state of Delaware. The newspaper indicates that after being sworn in, she will become the highest-ranking transgender person in the country.
After the victory, the Democrat said that she was "incredibly grateful" to the residents of her district. She also expressed hope that the election results will be a "signal for young people who find it difficult to fit into the standards of this world" and will show that there is a place for everyone in American democracy, and their votes are important.
Note that McBride worked as an intern in the administration of the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama. She was also the press secretary of the Human Rights Campaign foundation.
