On April 8, 31 children who were deported by the Russian occupiers will be returned to Ukraine. They will be in Kyiv in a few hours.
About this during the press conference informed executive director of Save Ukraine, representative of the President of Ukraine on children's rights, Mykola Kuleba.
"Now 31 children are on their way to Kyiv. These children will arrive in the capital in 3-4 hours. This was our 5th rescue mission and it was special not only because of the number of children we saved, but also because of the difficulty. Unfortunately, the grandmother who was supposed to pick up the two children died during this mission," Kuleba told the details.
Due to tragic circumstances, not 33 children were successfully returned, but 31. Now it will be necessary to return the body of this woman and the children she was supposed to take to Ukraine.
Kuleba emphasized that the woman's heart could not withstand long-term and repeated interrogations by the FSB.
"They kept the parents behind the fence and let them one by one into the facility where the cameras were installed. They pressured the parents to thank the Russian Federation for saving their children before taking the child away," said Kuleba.
Currently, there are also data on 1,5 million Ukrainian children who, after 2014, ended up on the territory of Russia or in captured territories.
"This is almost 20% of the children's population - we are talking about Crimea, Donbas, the occupied territories of other regions. And these are children who are hostages who, unfortunately, cannot return to Ukraine today for various reasons," Kuleba summarized.
He added that the return of Ukrainian children became massive after a series of missions, and especially after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and children's ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova. This made the Russians panic.
"They realized that every child that comes back is irrefutable proof of their crimes," said the former commissioner for children's rights.
