The UAE will limit the re-export of dual-purpose goods to Russia

OAE

The EU leadership informed the member states that the United Arab Emirates agreed to limit the re-export to Russia of dual-purpose goods used for military purposes in Ukraine. Turkey is considering the possibility of introducing a similar measure. About this the Bloomberg with reference to its sources.

Banning direct re-exports would mean a victory for Ukraine's allies trying to block the flow of military goods to Russia.

The UAE representative stated that they restrict the export and re-export of identified dual-use goods to conflict zones and have a legal export control system in place through which they continuously monitor the export of dual-use goods.

The official added that the UAE continues to maintain a close dialogue with international partners on the issues of the war in Ukraine and its consequences for the world economy.

After the EU and its GXNUMX allies banned the export of dual-use goods to Russia, Moscow managed to circumvent the restrictions by importing these goods through Central Asian countries, as well as Turkey, the UAE and others.

Ukraine's allies have made trips to many of these countries, trying to convince them to limit trade flows. EU states were told that the latest figures show that direct exports to Russia from many of these countries have now started to fall, but remain above pre-war levels.

China and Hong Kong have become jurisdictions of primary concern, accounting for more than 80% of Russian purchases of high-priority goods, the media reported.

The news agency suggests that the Kremlin managed to develop new supply routes: trade in priority goods from Turkey and Serbia to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan shows an unprecedented and abnormal surge.

One of the goals of the bloc's trade sanctions and diplomatic engagement with these countries is to make imports as expensive as possible for Russia.

Recent EU restrictive measures have included various tools to combat sanctions evasion, such as a mechanism prohibiting the export of certain goods to companies in third countries, as well as the listing of firms. The USA and the UK have also imposed sanctions against a number of companies from third countries.

One of the challenges facing the EU is that many of these countries are slow to provide timely data on trade or do not provide information at all, making it difficult to fully assess the issue.

Some countries, including Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, apply export controls to the most sensitive goods, but the validity of this is often difficult to verify, the sources said.
