NYT: new secret US documents have appeared on the Internet

A senior intelligence official called the leak "a nightmare for the Five Eyes"

New secret US documents about Ukraine, China and the Middle East were "leaked", - New York Times.

The second big "downpour" in a few days worried the Pentagon. The leak of more than 100 documents could cause serious damage to US national security.

The New York Times reported that on Friday, a new batch of US secret documents regarding Ukraine, the Middle East and China appeared on social networks.

What is known about the new batch of leaked US secret documents.

A new portion of classified materials, discovered on Friday in social networks, includes more than 100 documents, the New York Times writes. The scale of the leak, along with the secrecy of the documents themselves, could potentially cause enormous damage, US officials said.

A senior intelligence official called the leak "a nightmare for the Five Eyes," referring to an alliance of countries that actively share intelligence (the United States, Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Canada).

According to the NYT, one of the documents published on the anonymous forum 4chan allegedly shows a map showing the course of hostilities in Bakhmut, Ukraine. However, the documents, which, apparently, concern not only secret data about Ukraine's military plans.

Analysts who have examined the documents say the new batch of data contains sensitive material from briefings relating to China, the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East and terrorism.

The Pentagon said in a statement on Thursday that the Defense Department is looking into the information about the possible leak. On Friday, when a new batch of documents was discovered, representatives of the department said that they had nothing to add.

However, in private, officials from several agencies responsible for national security have acknowledged both that authorities are rushing to find the source of the leak and fears that there will be more leaked documents.

Former senior Pentagon official Mick Mulroy said that the leak poses a serious threat to the security system and could hinder military planning in Ukraine.

One of the officials noted that the documents could not have come from the Ukrainian side, as they did not have access to specific plans marked by the offices of the Pentagon's Joint Staff.

A second official said an investigation into the leak would be possible after it was determined which officials had access to them.
