Russia's offensive in Ukraine may be successful due to lack of US aid, — ISW

Russian troops are currently taking advantage of the shortage of Ukrainian material resources

Future Russian offensive operations may achieve more substantial and threatening successes if the US continues to delay aid to Ukraine.

According to the  Institute for the Study of War (ISW), US assistance is vital to the Defense Forces' ability to defend against current and future Russian offensive operations beginning in late spring and summer this year.

The report recalled the statement head of the GUR, Kyryl Budanov, that Ukrainian troops are preparing to repulse the upcoming major Russian offensive, which is expected in late May or early June. According to his assessment, it will be "catastrophically difficult" without the military assistance of the West.

Analysts also make a statement Defense Minister Rustem Umerov regarding the tense situation in the east of Ukraine. He noted that the invaders are concentrating their efforts west of Bakhmut in the direction of Chasiv Yar and the Armed Forces of Ukraine are successfully using modern equipment against the overwhelming number of the enemy.

In addition, ISW was referred to the statement of the spokesman of the "Khortytsia" group, Nazar Voloshyn. As he said, the Ukrainian army in the Bakhmut and Avdiiv directions can use only one to five artillery shells for every 10 enemy artillery shells. However, at the same time, our weapons work more accurately.

According to analysts of the Institute, the ability of the Armed Forces to repulse the recent intensification of Russian offensive operations in eastern Ukraine has deteriorated due to a lack of logistics and will continue to deteriorate in the near future if the delay in military assistance continues.

"Russian troops are currently using the shortage of Ukrainian material resources, caused by the lack of security assistance from the US, to achieve minor tactical successes. However, future Russian offensive operations may achieve more significant and threatening successes, especially west of Bakhmut, if the US continues to delay aid to Ukraine." — experts emphasize.
