The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine can start peace negotiations with Russia after the occupiers leave the territory of our state. President Zelensky will never sit down at the negotiating table with Putin.
He said this in an interview with the Italian publication Corriere della Sera.
Negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow are possible only if Russian troops are withdrawn from the territory of Ukraine.
"Putin is not a partner (for negotiations - ed.). He committed too many very serious crimes. There are other diplomatic means of indirect struggle. But it is clear to us that we will never be able to see Putin and Zelensky at the same table." Kuleba said.
Kuleba emphasized that Ukraine is ready for peace negotiations after Russia withdraws its occupying forces from our territory.
"This goal can be achieved through a mix of war and diplomacy. Our generals are engaged in the first, their task is to encourage the Russians to retreat and convince them that it is better to talk than to fight." emphasized the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ukrainian minister added that President Zelenskyi will never sit down at the negotiating table with President Putin.
"There are other diplomatic ways of doing things indirectly. But it is clear to us that we will never be able to see Putin and Zelensky at the same table," - Kuleba said.
Regarding whether it is possible to start negotiations before the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine, Kuleba said that it depends on the circumstances.
"We don't take the Russians at their word, no one in their right mind will. Before we go (to a negotiation compromise - ed.), we would like to make sure that he is serious and not another scam. That the Russians won't come back to attack us again. I understand these questions and their logic, but I cannot give unequivocal answers, because there are none, the lives of millions of people are at stake." - emphasized the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
