China lost the first place in the import of goods to the United States

China USA

Last year, for the first time in more than two decades, China lost first place in the import of goods to the United States. About this with reference to the US Ministry of Commerce the ABC News.

In 2023, the largest US importer was Mexico, with a share of more than 15% of all US imports. Deliveries from there increased by 5% compared to a year earlier and reached $475 billion.

The value of Chinese imports fell 20% to $427 billion, and its share of US imports fell to nearly 14%.

Mexican goods imported to the United States last exceeded the value of Chinese imports in 2002, and from 2008 to 2022, China confidently held the lead in merchandise imports to the United States.

Economic relations between the United States and China have seriously deteriorated in recent years as Beijing has pursued an aggressive trade policy to capture foreign markets and increased military activity in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Trump administration began imposing higher tariffs on Chinese imports in 2018, arguing that Beijing's trade practices violate World Trade Organization rules. President Joe Biden kept those tariffs in place after taking office in 2021.

As an alternative to manufacturing goods in China, the Biden administration has called for finding suppliers in US allies or bringing manufacturing back to the US.

Earlier, Chinese leader Xi Jinping said China is ready to cooperate with the US as both sides try to resolve differences and work together to address global challenges.
