Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping had a telephone conversation on Thursday, February 8. This is reported Bloomberg.
In particular, Xi Jinping is said to have told his Russian counterpart that the two countries should work closely together to safeguard security and counter foreign interference.
Also, according to Xi, China and Russia should have close strategic cooperation and work together to protect their sovereignty, security and development interests. He also emphasized that Beijing is ready to strengthen international multilateral cooperation with Russia.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin reported that Putin warmly congratulated Xi Jinping and the friendly Chinese people on the upcoming Spring Festival. It was noted there that the Russian and Chinese leaders confirmed their readiness to increase foreign policy coordination within the framework of multilateral structures.
In addition, Putin confirmed Russia's commitment to the "one China" principle. Xi, in turn, expressed support for the priorities of the Russian presidency of the BRICS. The leaders of the countries also discussed the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East.
