The disqualification of the Ukrainian fencing athlete Harlan was lifted. They also decided to cancel the handshake rule, reported the La Repubblica with reference to the decision of the International Fencing Federation.
Formerly Olga Harlan issued black card for refusing to shake the hand of her opponent from Russia after the winning match and displayed a saber in front of her.
Later it became known that the FIE canceled Harlan's suspension from the team World Cup, and the International Olympic Committee allowed the Ukrainian to compete in the team competition at the World Championships in Milan, which is crucial for selection for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The conference also announced a change in fencing rules. FIE allowed the athletes replace the handshake with a remote greeting.
"The traditional handshake at the end of the match will be immediately replaced by a remote greeting, which will allow Ukrainians not to approach the Russians, even if they compete as neutrals," the message reads.
