Gasoline prices in the Czech Republic have risen to new highs

The price of gasoline reached a new high, approaching 48 crowns per liter.

On Wednesday, Natural 95 cost an average of 47,96 kroner per liter, having risen by 0,27 kroner last week. The price of diesel fuel has increased by 1,06 crowns, gas stations now offer 48 crowns per liter. Its current record price from mid-March, when it sold for an average of nearly 49,60 Czech crowns per litre, still holds. This is evidenced by CCS data, which tracks fuel prices. Fuel prices are rising, despite the measures taken by the government to increase its price. Analysts expect that gasoline will stop rising in price or become cheaper. Diesel fuel prices will continue to rise slightly.

"The situation on the European wholesale fuel market remains very bad. Especially for diesel fuel, there has been a sharp increase in prices in the last two weeks. Its average price will be higher than the average price of gasoline in July," Finlord analyst Borys Tomchak said.

According to Tomchak, oil and fuel prices will remain high for a long time. According to him, the global supply is still not enough to cover the demand, and this year we cannot expect a significant increase in production capacity.

The government took a number of measures in connection with the increase in fuel prices, which began to rise in late February and March after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Among other things, since the beginning of June, it reduced the excise tax on gasoline and diesel fuel by 1,50 Czech crowns per liter for four months. However, fuel is now more expensive than the excise tax reduction.

The Ministry of Finance said last week that the price control shows that the main reason for the early cancellation of the positive effect of the excise tax reduction is not the increase in the margin on fuel, but mainly the increase in the prices of oil and gasoline on the Rotterdam Commodity Exchange.

The cheapest gasoline is now filled by drivers in the Ustec region, where a liter costs 47,66 kroner on average. Diesel fuel is the cheapest in the Hradec Králové region, a liter of which is sold for an average of 47,71 crowns. On the other hand, the most expensive types of fuel are offered by gas stations in Prague, where a liter of gasoline costs 48,48 crowns on average. Diesel is refueled there at 48,44 crowns per liter. A year ago, fuel was much cheaper. The average price per liter of gasoline was about 15,50 kroner lower, for diesel motorists paid about 17,50 kroner less per liter.
