Not far from the Israeli city of Haifa, at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea, Israeli diver Shloma Katsin found the sword of the Crusaders, which is almost a thousand years old. This was reported by the Israel Antiquities Authority.
Fearing that the unexpected find would be covered with sand or someone would shake it, the scuba diver lifted the sword from the water and handed it over to the Department for the Prevention of Robbed IAA.
"The iron sword was preserved in excellent condition. This is a wonderful rare find. The sword obviously belonged to a crusader," says Nir Dystelfeld, a representative of the department.
The sword was spotted by accident when teaching young divers to dive. And it was one of them who drew attention to the sword. Ego is about a meter long. Now it is completely covered with a thick layer of sand and shells.
Scientists hope that emblems and possibly even the name of the owner are hidden under this layer. After all the research, they promise to put the sword on display for the public in a local museum.
Note that the coast of Carmel, where the sword was found, served as a haven for ships during storms for many centuries.
Let us remind you that the crusades continued for almost two hundred years, starting from the end of the XNUMXth century. Their goal was to defend the Christian lands of Europe and Asia from the attacked Muslim nations.
