The Economist: Ukraine will not get widespread access to the vaccine from COVID-19 until 2023

At the beginning of 2021, vaccines will be widely introduced in developed countries

Ukraine, among the other low-income countries, will not have widespread access to coronavirus vaccines until 2023. About this it is said in the material of The Economist publication.

In early 2021, three vaccines — from the companies Pfizer and BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca — will be widely introduced in developed countries.

It is expected that the countries at the front of the queue, including Great Britain, the USA and most of the EU countries, will vaccinate priority groups of the population by the end of March, and other rich countries will catch up by the end of June.

However, some other middle-income countries and most low-income countries will rely on the COVAX mechanism, a WHO initiative aimed at providing 6 billion doses of the vaccine to poorer countries.

According to the publication, the first 2 billion of them will be transferred in 2021, mainly to healthcare workers.

“However, COVAX deliveries can be slow, especially if delays in production and delivery to richer countries postpone delivery times for poorer countries. In these developing countries, it will not be possible to achieve widespread vaccination coverage before 2023, if it happens at all," the material says.

According to the publication, these include 85 countries, including Ukraine.
