In five African countries, a subspecies of the Omicron strain was discovered, which was nicknamed the "invisible strain."
According to an employee of the WHO division in Africa, 3 subspecies of the Omicron strain circulate on the African continent — Ba.1, Ba.2 and Ba.3. The first of them is fixed most often.
Another subspecies of "Omicron" Ba.2, known as "Stealth".
The situation with this subspecies causes concern at WHO. Since laboratory tests cannot always recognize "Stealth-Omicron". It often lacks some criteria characteristic of the original Omicron strain.
The new subspecies was identified in five countries: in the South African Republic, where "omicron" was first discovered, as well as in Botswana, Kenya, Malawi and Senegal.
