US President Joe Biden reported that the US military conducted an operation in northwestern Syria, as a result of which they killed the head of the terrorist group "Islamic State" (IS) Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qureisha. There were no US military casualties among those involved in the operation.
"Last night, the US armed forces in northwestern Syria successfully conducted a counter-terrorist operation to protect the American people and our allies and make the world safer. Thanks to the skill and bravery of our Armed Forces, we removed Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Quraysh, the leader of ISIS, from the battlefield. All Americans returned safely from the operation," the head of state said.
Earlier, special services promised $10 million for information about his whereabouts. None of the soldiers were injured during the operation.
Al-Qurayshi is a native of Iraq, he became the leader of the Islamic State in 2019, after the death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdada.
Let us remind you that on October 26, 2019, al-Baghdadi, hiding from the American military, dragged his two children into a dead-end tunnel and detonated the suicide belt. All three died. Robert O'Brien, the US President's National Security Adviser, said at the time that al-Baghdada's body would be "disposed of in a proper manner." The terrorist was buried in the Mediterranean Sea.
