President Volodymyr Zelenskyi assured that as of now, Ukraine is ready for a counteroffensive. He said this in an interview The Wall Street Journal.
"I believe that today we are ready to do it. We would like to have some things, but we can't wait months for it. We really believe in success, I don't know how long it will take us."
The president called the Patriot a weapon which simply "disables Russia's ability to intimidate tens of millions of people."
The American Patriot anti-aircraft missile system is the only weapon that can shoot down some types of Russian missiles, so Ukraine needs more such systems.
"Today, the only weapon capable of stopping some types of Russian missiles that it uses against our civilian population, schools, infrastructure, energy system, the only system in the world is the Patriot. This war taught us this," the president said.
According to him, Ukraine needs 50 Patriot batteries to protect against Russian attacks. Only then will the Russians lose the opportunity to intimidate tens of millions of people.
Zelensky responded to Trump's words that he would like to end the war "in 24 hours"
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that he "did not understand" the words of former US President Donald Trump that he would end a full-scale war in one day by bringing Kyiv and Moscow to the negotiating table.
"I did not understand why Donald Trump said that in 24 hours he would have put Putin and Zelensky at the negotiating table and ended the war. He could then do it when he was. But this did not happen. Yes, the question was not so acute - because there was no full-scale invasion. But our territories were occupied," the president noted.
Zelenskyi admitted that in the situation Ukraine is in, possible changes are disturbing; because the situation can change for the better or for the worse.
Zelensky was asked how concerned he was about the impact of the upcoming US election on aid to Ukraine and whether he would like to end the war by then.
"Of course, we would like to end the war as soon as possible. This is not related to the administration - will it be the same or will it change. President Biden - he's a president during a full-scale war, and he's helped us more than President Trump. But at the same time, you need to understand that there was no full-scale war then, and I don't know how Trump would have acted," Zelensky answered.
