On May 29, the White House released a bill that lawmakers drafted as part of a preliminary agreement between Biden and the US House of Representatives to raise the debt limit. On May 28, it became known that the politicians reached an agreement that removes the threat of default.
The vice president of Riot Platforms cryptocurrency mining company Pierre Rocher pointed out that the document does not contain information about the DAME collection. In response, Davidson confirmed that Republicans had succeeded in blocking a number of previously proposed taxes from the current administration.
The tax for miners was first discussed in March 2023. The White House believes that digital asset mining companies should pay for the environmental pollution they cause and the increase in greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.
According to officials, DAME will force miners to "better assess the harm they are causing to society."
The Ministry of Finance of the United States proposed to introduce the fee in stages over three years: in the first year at the level of 10%, in the second - 20%, and in the third - 30%.
It is worth noting that Biden's initiative faced criticism from representatives of the crypto industry, as well as some politicians. In particular, the US presidential candidate from the Democratic Party, Robert Francis Kennedy Jr., said that digital assets should be protected from "invasive surveillance".
It will be recalled that Biden opposed the protection of crypto traders in the agreement to increase the debt limit for obligations against the background of the threat of US default.
