The National Police detained the head of the "State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine" when he tried to flee from Ukraine.
The official was detained at Zhulyany airport on the morning of August 13. In this way, he tried to avoid responsibility, law enforcement officers note. In addition, his accomplice was detained along with him.
The investigators reported the suspicion to the head of the corporation and the owner of several companies under Part 5 of Art. 191 (appropriation, embezzlement of property or possession by abuse of official position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Now they are being investigated.
Petitions to the court are being prepared for the selection of preventive measures for both suspects.
Earlier, the investigators of the National Police established that the officials of the State Agricultural Company of Ukraine committed embezzlement of the corporation's property by carrying out grain export operations to controlled non-resident companies at an undervalued price and without advance payment. The amount of losses caused by the state company is more than 57 million dollars.
