The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court took into custody in absentia the Odessa businessman Vladimir Galanternyk, suspected of leading a criminal organization that caused damage of UAH 689 million. This was reported by the press service of VAX.
"The Investigating Judge VAKS chose a preventive measure in the form of detention of one of the suspects in the case of illegal possession of the land of the territorial community of Odessa and legalization of funds, who, in particular, is accused of creating a criminal organization," the message says.
We are talking about the so-called "Odessa case". Together with city hall officials, including the mayor Gennady Trukhanov, as well as the ex-prosecutor of the region Oleg Zhuchenko, he is going through the case of land scams. There are 16 people in total.
Galanternyk's lawyer Olga Prosyanyuk reported that the businessman is now in Israel, and law enforcement officers know about it. In recent years, he spends most of his time abroad. In particular, he is often in London, where his family lives.
The businessman is incriminated by articles on the creation of a criminal organization (Article 255 of the Criminal Code), appropriation and embezzlement of property (Part 1 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code), on money laundering (Part 3 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code) and abuse of power (Part 2 of Article 364 CC).
