A wildfire is raging in Panhandle, Texas. In connection with this, the local authorities carried out a mass evacuation of the civilian population, and the Pantex nuclear weapons assembly plant was also suspended.
The fire covered more than 200 thousand acres of land. A state of emergency has been declared in more than 60 districts. Currently, rescuers continue to evacuate people from dangerous areas.
In addition, a decision was made to suspend the work of the nuclear weapons assembly facility due to the threat of fire spreading.
"We evacuated our personnel, secondary personnel from the facility, just as a precaution," said Leif Pendergraft, spokesman for the National Nuclear Security Administration's manufacturing office at Pantex.
It is reported that the situation is complicated by strong winds, due to which the fire spreads through dry grass many times faster. However, rescuers and special services are waiting for more favorable weather conditions, which are forecast for Thursday.
Also, the local emergency service reported the destruction of houses. There is currently no information on victims of the natural disaster.
