Donald Trump won Michigan's Republican primary by a wide margin, consolidating his lead in the party's presidential nomination. Nikki Haley, his last remaining opponent, finished second. It is reported Reuters.
With 58% of the expected Republican vote counted, Trump has 67% support, while Haley has 27%, according to Edison Research.
Michigan is expected to play a pivotal role in the November 5 US presidential election, which is likely to be a battle between Joe Biden and Trump. It's a battlefield that can tilt in either direction. Biden was ahead of Trump in Michigan by just 2,8 percentage points in the 2020 election.
“We have to win on November 5th and we're going to win big and it's going to be like nothing anybody has ever seen. It will be fantastic. We'll win Michigan, we'll win it all." Trump said to his. supporters in Michigan.
Although Haley lost to Trump in every primary, she performed well among moderate voters. Shortly before Trump was declared the winner in Michigan, Haley vowed to keep fighting.
