John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications at the US National Security Council, said that Ukraine was in an extremely desperate position on the front line.
"Ukrainian soldiers at the front, I mean, they make very difficult decisions about where they will shoot and what they will shoot at. And they are running out of ammunition... So the situation is very dire," — he told journalists at a briefing, writes The Hill.
According to Kirby, Ukrainian soldiers have to make choices about who and what to shoot.
"They are running out of ammunition... That's why the situation is extremely desperate," — he added.
He noted that he could not give a time frame yet and said that, "you know, by such and such a day, they will lose the war, but they definitely started to lose the territories that they took back from the Russians."
Now, when Ukraine cannot defend the liberated territories, it has to leave them due to lack of funding.
"We need it now. I won't even speculate in which case it might be too late. In a sense, we are already late. They lost Avdiyivka because of—literally because of ammunition. So this already had a significant impact on the course of the battles," — Kirby noted.
