Law enforcement officers detained a man who sent parcels with home-made pyrotechnic products to Kyiv and Odessa, which were detonated in post offices.
Let us remind you that on Thursday, July 29, around six o'clock in the morning, an explosion occurred in the box of the "New Post" post office in one of the shopping centers on Obolony. No one was injured in the explosion. Subsequently, a similar incident occurred at a post office in Odessa.
In the evening of the same day, according to the results of investigative (research) measures, law enforcement officers established the identity of the suspect and detained him in the city of Chernivtsi. The detainee turned out to be a 32-year-old native of Crimea, a resident of Chernivtsi, who had no previous convictions.
During urgent searches of the man's place of residence, law enforcement officers found parts of an improvised explosive device, packages with a powder-like substance similar to explosives, a device for suppressing the GSM signal, Novaya Poshta invoices, drafts, and the like.
Seized objects and substances are sent for testing.
Also, passports of a citizen of Ukraine and the Russian Federation, issued in his name, were found in the detainee's possession.
The man from Chernivtsi has now been taken to the Obolon police department of the state emergency department in Kyiv for investigation.
The man is preparing a report of suspicion based on preliminary legal qualification under part 2 of Art. 194 (Deliberate destruction or damage to property) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and the question of choosing a measure of restraint is resolved. For the specified crime, he faces up to ten years in prison.
"According to preliminary data, the attacker in both cases used improvised explosive devices of low power, which were activated by a timer mechanism. Currently, the investigation establishes the motives and circumstances of the crime committed.
Considering the public outcry and the special complexity of the criminal proceedings, the commission of related crimes in the territory of several regions of Ukraine, a joint investigative group was created to promptly conduct investigative actions, which includes investigators from several regions of the country," the police said.
