Yulia Tymoshenko: Deputies went against the will of Ukrainians by ratifying the Istanbul Convention

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified Istanbul Convention

According to Yulia Tymoshenko, head of the "Batkivshchyna" party, who did not vote for its adoption, the convention imposes values that are not characteristic of Ukrainian society.

About this Tymoshenko wrote on his Facebook page.

In her opinion, deputies from other factions went against the will of Ukrainians, because such an important issue should be submitted to a national referendum. Tymoshenko emphasized that, despite the good name of the convention - on the prevention of violence against women and domestic violence and the fight against these phenomena - the document primarily introduces the concept of gender. This, in her opinion, will cause mental illnesses in children.

"Questions that will actually reformat our whole life, when we will not have to rely on their physiological sex when raising children... Ask Ukrainians in the referendum if they are ready to go for it. The majority of society is against depriving them of spirituality, which is the basis of all our present and future victories," Yulia Tymoshenko believes.

In addition, speaking from the rostrum of the parliament, Tymoshenko debunked a number of myths related to this document.

"First of all, the Istanbul Convention is not part of the package of requirements that the European Union gives us in order to give us candidacy. And secondly, not all EU countries have ratified this document. In particular, our neighbors are Slovakia and Hungary. And Poland is currently in the process of denunciation of the ratified Istanbul Agreement. Among the countries that supported us a lot during the war - Latvia, Lithuania, Great Britain, the Czech Republic - did not ratify this convention, and this did not prevent them from becoming members of the EU," the politician added.

She also reminded that Ukraine has one of the strongest laws in the world to combat domestic violence, for which criminal liability has been introduced. The well-known "Scandinavian paradox" shows that in those countries where the gender ideology was most applied, the most cases of violence against women are recorded.
