In Tashkent, a 24-year-old weightlifter from Khmelnytsk, Alina Marushchak, won a gold medal at the World Weightlifting Championship and became the strongest woman on the planet.
At the World Championships in Uzbekistan, the athlete won in the 81 kg category, lifted a total of 248 kg (113 kg in the push + 135 kg in the jerk).
By 9 kg, the Ukrainian surpassed the Colombian Valeria Rivas, who took the silver. The bronze went to a weightlifter from South Korea.
Note that Alina Marushchak is the current European champion. She won this title in April 2021 in Moscow, where she lifted a total of 236 kg.
Meanwhile, weightlifting is threatened to be excluded from the program of the 2024 Olympics in Paris if the international federation does not properly fight doping among weightlifters.
