The call was also joined by all EU members and the European Union as a separate signatory: Norway, Britain, USA, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Georgia, Moldova, North Macedonia and Turkey.
The statement emphasizes that Russia's control over the ZNPP poses a great threat to the global principles of nuclear safety, which must be observed by all IAEA member states, including the Russian Federation.
"The presence of the armed forces of the Russian Federation at the Zaporizhia NPP prevents the operator and the Ukrainian authorities from fulfilling their nuclear and radiation safety obligations in accordance with international conventions and IAEA safety standards, and also prevents the IAEA from fulfilling its mandate under guarantees," says the joint statement of the countries.
