The war exposed the irresponsibility and cowardice of many heads of settlements, which prevented tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilians from escaping. People's deputy of four convocations Mykhailo Pozhivanov, who at one time held the positions of head of Mariupol and deputy head of the Kyiv MDA, told about this in the comments of "ElitExpert". Currently, he heads the Odesa city organization "Batkivshchyna."
"When the war began, the leaders of some large communities, cities and districts either removed themselves or left the country altogether. And this led to the fact that a large number of settlements of various levels were left, for example, without electricity for a long period, although these problems could be easily and quickly solved," said Mykhailo Pozhivanov.
At the same time, in the absence of local government leadership and people responsible for specific areas, residents were left alone with these problems, moreover, in the most difficult conditions of a bloody war.
"This applies to both heat supply and, in general, the operation of the life support system of any settlement. There were situations when people did not even know how and when the evacuation was taking place, Mykhailo Pozhivanov stressed. — In some cities, tens of thousands of people could have been saved if the city authorities had been there, worked and helped people in this difficult time. And they did not invent excuses - why they were the first to leave their ship, and not the last."
"Government must have character - if you are elected, you must be responsible for the city or community, as well as, first of all, for the people who live there," the politician emphasized.
