There are no intensive care units for seriously ill patients with COVID-19 in Odessa hospitals

In addition, there is a shortage of intensive care physicians

Odesa hospitals have run out of intensive care units for seriously ill patients due to the increase in morbidity and hospitalizations of people infected with the coronavirus. Ekaterina Nozhevnikova, the head of the public organization "Monster Corporation", reported this on her Facebook page.

According to her, at the moment there are no places in intensive care units for seriously ill patients. In addition, hospitals have an acute shortage of resuscitation specialists.

"IVL is in the reporting tables according to the data of the hospitals, but there are no places. Let's just not forget that last year ventilators were bought "overdofig", but it is impossible to "buy more" intensive care specialists. And by itself, the device in the hospital does not mean anything at all - someone must work on it," Nozhevnikova wrote.

Meanwhile, the first deputy head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, Boris Voloshenkov, said at a briefing that doctors on the spot are regulating the issue of intensive care units.

"Now there is a spike in the incidence of COVID-19. Therefore, it means that there are free places in intensive care units - there are practically no such places. Doctors on the spot regulate this issue. That is, if the patient is in the hospital in a serious condition, the doctors will provide him with an intensive care unit. Yes, we have about 20 people on artificial lung ventilation out of the total number of patients," he said.

Voloshenkov also noted that the peak of morbidity in the region is expected at the end of October - beginning of November.

According to him, at the moment, about 25% of the residents of the region have been vaccinated. Meanwhile, the region's main covid-73,4 hospitals are overloaded by XNUMX%. Hospitals of the second wave are now being prepared.

It should be noted that over the past day, October 3, 215 new cases of coronavirus infection were recorded in the Odesa region, two died from complicated diseases, and 102 people recovered. In Ukraine, 4821 cases of coronavirus infection have been laboratory confirmed. 114 patients died.
