On Saturday evening, a fire broke out in the Odessa pre-trial detention center, where Sergey Sternenko is being held, which was promptly extinguished. This is reported by the Department of Communications of the State Penitentiary Service.

The department noted that the fire was quickly extinguished. No one was injured as a result of the incident.

The Department for the Execution of Criminal Sentences said that the fire occurred at 19:50 as a result of careless handling of fire. The fire occurred in an auxiliary room for household equipment, which is adjacent to the food block of the pre-trial detention center.

As a result of the fire, the roof of the building was also damaged.

"There are no injured among the convicts and employees. The institution's cafeteria is working normally. The fire was extinguished at 20:40.

We remind you that on February 23, 2021, the Odessa court sentenced Sergei Sternenko and Ruslan Demchuk to 7 years and 3 months of imprisonment with the confiscation of half of the property in the case of kidnapping and torture of a person. The court found that Sternenko and Demchuk in the spring of 2015 in the Odesa region attacked the deputy of the Comintern district council, Sergei Shcherbych, asked him to hand over his mandate.
