Fighting resumed between Armenia and Azerbaijan

The countries accused each other of provocations.

Armenia and Azerbaijan announced the aggravation of the situation on the disputed territory. This information was confirmed by the defense ministries of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Baku reported the destruction and seizure of Armenian equipment, and Yerevan claims that it destroyed Azerbaijani equipment in response to armed provocations.

"For the purpose of further aggravating the situation on the state border, the enemy's military units opened fire from mortars of various calibers and artillery in the direction of our units stationed in the territory of the Lachin region," the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan reports.

Statements about the aggravation of the situation appear for the fourth day in a row. The Azerbaijani military even claimed that they had moved forward, but the Ministry of Defense of Armenia denied these claims.

"As of 14:00, the situation in the eastern direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border continues to remain tense. The units of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan once again resorted to provocation, launched an attack on Armenian positions located in this direction. The enemy uses artillery, armored vehicles and firearms of various calibers. The Armenian side took retaliatory actions. As a result of the fierce firefight, the enemy has lost an armored vehicle," says the message of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia.

During the clashes, at least 15 Armenian and an unknown number of Azerbaijani soldiers were killed. Several dozens of Armenian servicemen were captured, and there were losses in military equipment.

Armenia has already officially appealed to Russia for military assistance in accordance with the bilateral agreement of 1997.

At the moment, the Ministry of Defense of Armenia announced the achievement of a truce on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border with the mediation of Russia.

The current aggravation of the situation on the border is called the most serious incident after the end of the 44-day fighting in 2020.
