Law enforcement officers exposed an organized criminal group in Kyiv, whose members sold children abroad under the guise of surrogate motherhood. This was reported in the communications department of the National Police of Ukraine.
The OPG consisted of five people, including the organizer, co-organizer, two citizens of one of the East Asian countries, and also a urologist. The perpetrators created a limited liability company that provided intermediary services within the framework of the surrogacy program.
The defendants advertised their services on the Internet platforms of different countries and acted according to a well-established scheme: they looked for women with a vulnerable state, who agreed to fictitious marriages with foreigners for monetary compensation in the amount of 300 to 1000 US dollars.
The doctor, who was part of an organized criminal group, made out false certificates about contraindications for planning and carrying a pregnancy by "wives". This became the basis for the official use of assisted reproductive technologies, so surrogate mothers were sought for "married couples". Women were paid six to eight thousand US dollars for carrying a child.
After the birth of the baby, the mother drew up a power of attorney for the right to take the child abroad by the foreign father. Citizens of the second state paid about 70 thousand US dollars for the services of the attackers.
The police established 16 facts of the sale of children. In addition, during the searches, operatives seized draft records, which contain information on another 160 orders from foreigners.
"In the process of documenting, we managed to seize three newborns and hand them over to social services. But at least 13 children were sold and taken out of Ukraine," said the head of the National Police Igor Klymenko.
At this time, the employees of the Migration Police Department are checking each fact in detail.
Law enforcement officers informed the defendants of the case of suspicion under part 3 of article 149 (Trafficking in people) and part 2. Article 366 (Služebny podlog) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
