Zelensky signed the anti-oligarchic law

After the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed the law on de-oligarchization (No. 5599) to the president for signature today, it was immediately signed by Volodymyr Zelensky. This is reported by the website of the Office of the President.

"In all successful European countries, there is no branch of power like the oligarchs. Governments there work in the interests of their citizens, not a handful of the richest. Our citizens voted for such changes for Ukraine in 2019," noted Volodymyr Zelensky.

The President pointed out that the adoption of the anti-oligarchic law was opposed by dozens of influential persons who depend on the oligarchs.

"There was resistance. In the future, there will be even more resistance from those who earned billions for the state. But there is no other option, except dismantling the oligarchic system. Without it, it is simply impossible to overcome poverty in Ukraine and fully join the European community," the country's president added.

The President's Office noted that the document has already been sent for official publication.

As a reminder, earlier ElitExpert wrote about that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky introduced a bill to the parliament on the liquidation of the oligarchic system in Ukraine.

This document contains a definition of the so-called oligarchs - persons who have significant influence in the economic and political life of the country, and also control the main segments of the media space.

The draft law does not violate the basic rights of people who fall under the definition of an oligarch, but only defines the circle of these persons and establishes the rules of their transparent relationship with representatives of the authorities.

It, in particular, will regulate meetings and other relationships of representatives of the authorities with persons who own significant assets.

The document has a limited validity period of 10 years. It should be the first step towards liquidation of the oligarchic system in Ukraine. On its basis, antitrust laws, the law on lobbying and other normative legal acts will be developed, which will reshape economic and public relations in the country.
