The language ombudsman asked the Prosecutor General to monitor the abolition of regional languages in the country

He reported this on the ombudsman's Facebook page

The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Taras Kremen, called on local councils to cancel the decision on the functioning of regional languages, and also appealed to the Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova to follow up on it.

He reported this on the ombudsman's Facebook page.

"The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Taras Kremen, appealed to the newly elected deputies of a number of local councils about the need to cancel the decision on the functioning of regional languages that contradict the current legislation of Ukraine, and sent a letter to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Iryna Venediktova, to ensure the cancellation of the relevant decisions in a court of law," says in a message. According to him, despite the fact that the law "On the foundations of state language policy" was declared unconstitutional back in February 2018, the decision of individual regional, city, village and village councils in Dnipropetrovsk, Zakarpattia, Zaporozhye, Luhansk, Mykolaiv, Odesa , Kherson and Chernivtsi regions have not been canceled yet.

"In some of them (local self-government bodies — Ed.) paperwork is conducted and even decision-making is carried out in the regional language, which is a direct violation of the current legislation," Kremen emphasized.
