The language ombudsman is outraged by the bill to abolish fines for refusing to provide services in Ukrainian

Kremin believes that the bill on the abolition of fines for refusing to provide information and services in the state language is another attack on the language law

The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Taras Kremin, believes that the bill on the abolition of fines for refusing to provide information and services in the state language is another attack on the language law.

"The Servants of the People draft law registered yesterday in the Verkhovna Rada on the abolition of fines for refusing to provide information and services in the state language is another attack on the language law," the press service of the ombudsman said in a statement.

According to the commissioner, this is not the first attempt to attack the language law.

"These actions have nothing to do with development, with increasing the status and role of the Ukrainian language in society. And in general, it seems to me that the parliament should now deal with the fight against the pandemic, economic issues, and the security sphere, and not once again raise issues that divide society," he noted.

Kremin emphasized that the language law should not be touched in the coming years, and expressed the hope that the draft law would not have prospects either in the committee or in the parliamentary hall.
