Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada supported the resolution on renaming the village of Novgorodskoye in the Bakhmut district of the Donetsk region to the village of New York. 301 deputies voted "for".
The proposal for renaming was submitted by the Donetsk regional military-civil administration.
Note that the village of Novgorodskoe was given back its historical name - until 1951 it was New York. However, the Soviet government, guided by the political and ideological considerations of the Communist Party, decided to rename the settlement to Novgorod.
