In Ukraine, conscription into the army can be canceled

This was stated by the newly appointed Minister of Defense Aleksey Reznikov.

Ukraine can refuse military conscription. This was reported by the new Minister of Defense Alesey Reznikov.

According to him, he is already conducting consultations on this topic, and options for both partial and complete cancellation of the draft are being considered.

"In my preliminary consultations, I am really discussing the appropriateness of canceling the draft. We need to strive for the transition to a professional army. The army should become one of the best employers. There are thoughts of canceling the call completely, there are thoughts of leaving it in minimal amounts," added Reznikov.

At the same time, he declared his desire to form a professional army in the country, however, for this, it is necessary to make the service more attractive, according to the new head of the Ministry of Defense.

Note that the previous Minister of Defense Andrey Taran was categorically against such ideas. According to him, "urgent service is the main source of military training of citizens and the accumulation of military reserves."

Let us remind you that in October 2013, a month before the start of Euromaidan, the then President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, canceled military conscription in the country by decree. An exception was made only for a small number of calls to the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (now the National Guard). However, already six months later, after the start of the war in Donbass, mandatory conscription was returned.

As a reminder, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Thursday appointed the former deputy prime minister of the government, Alexei Reznikov, as the country's new minister of defense. 273 deputies voted for his appointment with the required minimum of 226 votes.
