A military transport plane of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces arrived at Boryspil airport, which evacuated 83 people from Afghanistan, including 31 Ukrainians, as well as citizens of other states. This is the second evacuation board that took people from Kabul to Kyiv. This was reported in the Office of the President.
"There are 83 people on board the plane, 31 of them are citizens of Ukraine. These are all citizens of Ukraine who could get to the airport at the time of departure, who were taken through all the difficulties and checkpoints and put on board," said Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Kuleba.
Among the Ukrainian citizens are 12 people who were at a military base near Kabul, in respect of whom Russian propaganda spread a fake that they were allegedly abandoned.
"We promised that we would return them, and today we returned them," noted the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Also among the evacuees are representatives of international media and public organizations who were in danger in Afghanistan.
One of the evacuees was injured as a result of a scuffle at the Kabul airport, but his life is not threatened. All those rescued will be examined by medics, the evacuees will undergo the necessary formal procedures as quickly as possible in order to have the opportunity to rest after a difficult flight.
Afghan journalist Fatima Husseyna told the details of the evacuation and thanked for the rescue.
"The Ukrainian military are real heroes. They helped us get to the airport, which was constantly under fire from the Taliban," she said.
The head of the President's Office, Andrey Yermak, noted that the operation to evacuate people from Afghanistan took place under the personal control of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
According to him, more than 100 Ukrainian citizens remain in Afghanistan at this time, so the evacuation operation will be continued in the coming days.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the United States of America appealed to Ukraine to help in the implementation of the operation to evacuate people in danger from Afghanistan. Ukraine agreed to provide logistical assistance in the removal of people from Kabul, with their subsequent relocation to the USA and other countries. This operation does not provide for shelter in Ukraine for evacuees. The United States also helps in operations to evacuate Ukrainian citizens.
