The famous British director Terry Gilliam, speaking at the closing of the 12th Odessa International Film Festival on August 21, confused Ukraine with the Russian Federation.

At the closing ceremony of the film forum, which took place on the Potemkin Stairs, Terry Gilliam was awarded the "Golden Duke" for his contribution to the art of cinema. After going on stage, he said: "Thank you, Russia! Thank you, Odessa! Thank you all!".

Gilliam apologized after the presenter's remark.

Later, he explained his mistake with excitement and age.
