Among three hundred thousand checks of COVID-certificates, Ukrainian border guards found 575 invalid ones. This was reported by the press secretary of the State Border Service of Ukraine Andriy Demchenko.
According to him, some of these documents had "obvious signs of forgery", so the border guards reported this to the law enforcement authorities. After returning to Ukraine, the rest of the owners of the certificates, with whom problems arose, were sent to quarantine.
"For a month (from August 21 to September 21), border guards conducted about 300 checks of COVID-certificates of Ukrainians returning from abroad and foreigners. More than half a thousand of them turned out to be invalid," said Andriy Demchenko.
Border guards detected fake COVID certificates with the help of SafeBorder software. A special electronic device verifies the validity of the document and its owner, since each COVID certificate has a unique electronic identifier and a QR code.
Meanwhile, fake vaccination certificates continue to be sold in Odessa.
As a reminder, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a bill on the introduction of criminal liability for the forgery of certificates testifying to the completion of vaccination against COVID-19.
As Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said: "Currently, 99% of Ukrainians hospitalized with a diagnosis of COVID-19 have not been vaccinated. However, vaccination certificates are increasingly forged in the country."
We note that for forging vaccination documents, fraudsters will have to pay 170 hryvnias or go to prison for three years. People who knowingly use fake documents and doctors who knowingly provide false information will face up to 2 years in prison and a fine of 68 hryvnias. Recipients of fakes face a fine of 17 to 34 thousand hryvnias.
