Ukraine signed a contract with the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer for the supply of an additional 10 million doses of the vaccine against COVID-19. Health Minister Maksym Stepanov reported this to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, who signed the document on behalf of the state.
The conclusion of this agreement became possible thanks to direct communication between Zelenskyi and the CEO of Pfizer, Albert Burla. The President personally coordinated the process of negotiations on the supply of the drug to Ukraine, because today in the world the demand for vaccines significantly exceeds production.
"After long and difficult negotiations with Pfizer, we reached an agreement on the supply of an additional 10 million doses. We signed the corresponding contract. That is, in total, we will receive 20 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine during this calendar year," Stepanov reported.
The President thanked the CEO of Pfizer for helping our country during the difficult times of the pandemic and noted the efforts of the representatives of Ukraine, who accompanied the process of signing the contract.
"This is really a remarkable result. Now the task of the state is to ensure the vaccination of the maximum number of citizens. It is also necessary to more actively explain to people the importance of vaccination against covid, because this is the only opportunity to overcome the pandemic, return to normal life and forget about quarantines forever," the head of state noted.
According to the agreements, the first deliveries under this contract are 500. doses - Ukraine will receive already in May-June 2021, 4,5 million doses - in the third quarter (July-September), the remaining 15 million doses - in the fourth quarter of this year.
Recall, April 16 in Ukraine the first batch of the Pfizer and BioNTech coronavirus vaccine has arrived within the framework of the COVAX international charity initiative.
