The SBU returned the State Register of Seamen's Documents from the control of private parties and handed it over to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine. Criminals used this resource for corruption schemes, the SBU press service reported.
"Two agents, mediators of agencies that were engaged in hiring seafarers, were informed about the suspicion of receiving an illegal benefit for further transfer to officials of the Inspectorate for training and certification of seafarers. Now the question of bringing other involved persons to criminal responsibility is being resolved," said Ilya Vytyuk, head of the Department of Cyber Security of the SBU, at a briefing.
"Currently, work is underway to restore the relevant services, and soon the "Sailor's Electronic Cabinet" will be fully operational," Ilya Vytyuk emphasized.
"Thus, the Security Service of Ukraine did everything to eliminate corruption when obtaining seafarers' permit documents. That is, people will not have to give $ 3-8 thousand each. bribes, as it was before. I really hope that the transfer of the register to the Ministry will make any schemes in the future impossible," summarized Ilya Vytyuk.
We will remind you that last week the SBU exposed and blocked a large-scale criminal scheme for issuing seafarers' permit documents. In fact, the state register was in the possession of third-party private persons. This allowed criminals to illegally draw up permit documents for sailors and receive up to $150 million in illegal profits annually.
