In 2021, the cost of the Easter basket will be about UAH 780, which is UAH 160 (25,8%) more expensive than last year. This was reported by the press service of the National Research Center Institute of Agrarian Economics on Monday, April 19.
The cost of the main component of the Easter basket — homemade pastries — will be about UAH 120 per 1 kg. In stores and supermarkets, ready-made paska will cost more, as its price depends on various ingredients and baking methods.
"The increase in the cost of paska is caused by several factors. On the one hand, this is the increase in the price of eggs, sugar, flour, and butter, and on the other hand, the increase in prices for grain crops and livestock products due to a decrease in the world grain harvest, an increase in the cost of energy resources, and also a surge in food prices due to the introduction of quarantine due to the epidemic of the COVID-19 coronavirus," the scientific center noted.
In addition to Passover, the Easter basket also includes eggs, homemade sausage, ham, lard, butter, soft and hard cheese, horseradish and salt, which also increased compared to last year.
"Eggs have become an unexpectedly expensive component of the 2021 holiday basket - UAH 38 per dozen, which is 90% more than in March last year," the message says.
It notes that traditionally expensive meat products will be: home-made sausage (0,5 kg) — 130 UAH (230-305 UAH for 1 kg) and pork (0,5 kg) — 135 UAH from the calculation of 230-280 UAH for 1 kg Compared to 2020, the price of bozhenina increased on average in Ukraine by almost 22,7%, and homemade sausage - by 10,2%. Lard (0,5 kg) will cost 50 hryvnias from the calculation of 90-132 hryvnias per 1 kg.
"Among dairy products, you will have to pay the most for cheese (0,5 kg) — 120 UAH (200-268 UAH per 1 kg) and butter (0,5 kg) — 114 UAH (180-230 UAH per 1 kg). Soft cheese (0,5 kg) will cost approximately 58 UAH (100-120 UAH per 1 kg). The price of horseradish (250 g) is UAH 14, that is, it remained at the level of last year — UAH 10-15, and it depends on the manufacturer and taste components," experts report.
The calculation of the cost of the Easter basket in 2021 was made by the National Research Center Institute of Agrarian Economics on the basis of data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, monitoring of retail prices in city markets and supermarkets on average by region as of April 1, 2021.
