The collection of the "Babiy Yar" Memorial Center was replenished with two antique books

Both editions were preserved in single copies and have historical, scientific and memorial value

The collection of the library of the Babiy Yar Holocaust Memorial Center has been replenished with two unique books. This is reported on the center's official Facebook page.

The first book is the original edition of 1926 - "Jewish Pogroms 1918-1921", compiled by the politician Zelman Ostrovsky. The book describes the history of Jewish pogroms in Ukraine and Belarus during the Ukrainian Revolution and Civil War. It illuminates the prehistory of the Holocaust and is illustrated with photographs depicting Jews who died during mass pogroms in Cherkassy, Smele, Fastovo, Ovruch, Khmelnytskyi and other cities. In total, the book contains 219 photogravures.

The second edition is the memoirs of the Ukrainian public figure and teacher Viktor Andrievsky - "From the past". This is the first volume of the book, published in New York in 1921. It describes the events of 1917 in the Poltava region, which, first of all, shed light on the political, socio-economic situation and inter-ethnic relations.

"Digitized copies of these publications are already widely available, but the original copies are considered a real collector's item. Both editions were preserved in single copies and have social-historical, scientific and memorial value," the memorial center said.

And they noted that the digital version of the book is available on the online platform of the "Babiy Yar" Center, and the original editions will be provided to researchers upon request.

We would like to add that as part of the "Library" project, the "Babiy Yar" Holocaust Memorial Center searches for, preserves and opens to the public materials about the tragedy of Babiy Yar and other crimes against humanity committed during the Second World War on the territory of Ukraine and in Eastern Europe. Another important topic of the collection of materials and documents is the lost pre-war world of Jewish life and culture in Ukraine and Kyiv.
